About Google Meet recordings
Google Meet saves recordings as MP4 in the organizer's Google Drive, in the "Meet Recordings" folder. Download it and upload it here to get the full timestamped transcript, even if your Workspace plan doesn't include transcription.
Where your Google Meet recording is
- Recording is only available on some Google Workspace plans, and it's started by the organizer or someone with permission.
- It's saved in the organizer's Google Drive, in the Meet Recordings folder, and the link appears in the calendar event and in an email.
- If you're not the organizer, ask them to share the file with download permission.
How to transcribe the Meet meeting
- 1In Google Drive, open Meet Recordings, right-click the recording and choose Download (MP4).
- 2Upload the MP4 to the tool above (up to 2 GB and 5 hours). If it's bigger, extract the audio as explained in MP4 to text.
- 3Choose the meeting language and press Transcribe.
- 4Check names and acronyms with the synced audio and download as Word to write the minutes.
What about Meet's own transcription?
Some Workspace editions can create a transcript in Google Docs during the meeting, but only if the plan includes it and someone turns it on, and only in certain languages. If it wasn't turned on, the meeting was in another language, or you need timestamps, SRT subtitles or an editor with synced audio, uploading the recording here is the most direct route.
