How to sync an SRT

Why subtitles go out of sync
If the offset keeps growing through the video (in sync at the start, off at the end), it isn't a shift but a speed difference: the quickest fix is usually to re-transcribe the final version with the transcription tool.
- The video was edited (an intro added or a section cut) after the subtitles were created.
- The subtitles belong to another version of the video, with a different length or speed.
- The player has a different audio delay from your editor.

What if I move them earlier by more than the first cue's start time?
Times never go below zero: cues that would become negative start at 00:00:00.
Can I use decimals?
Yes, with a dot or a comma: -1.5 and 2,25 both work.
Does it change the subtitle text?
No. Only timings move; the text and the file format (SRT or VTT) stay the same.
